Bike paths, golf and the river in Sunriver
Much of Sunriver's character comes from being a planned community built around open space, paths and the Deschutes River. This page gives the public descriptions.
The pathways
The Sunriver Area Chamber of Commerce says the Sunriver Owners Association (SROA) maintains more than 34 miles of family-friendly paved bike and pedestrian trails that run past the Deschutes River, golf courses, meadows and forests. The chamber also describes a newer 5.5-mile paved path that connects Sunriver with the Lava Lands Visitor Center, leading to the Deschutes River and Benham Falls. Its riding tips include riding single file, telling walkers and runners when you pass, and wearing a helmet. It says helmets are required by law for children under 14. Pathway maps and rules are posted on kiosks along the pathways and roads. The Owners Association's own site is the place to confirm current pathway rules.
The river and the recreation
Wikipedia places Sunriver on the east side of the Deschutes River, and lists its features as residential homesites, common areas, recreational facilities, a resort and a commercial area called The Village at Sunriver. Golf is one of the recreation categories mentioned by the chamber, which describes the paths as passing golf courses. This guide does not review or recommend any course or business.
For the river itself, the Forest Service's Deschutes National Forest pages cover public land in the area, and the nonprofit Deschutes River Conservancy works on river flows and watershed health.
